1928-1987  PITTSBURGH   USA

ANDY WARHOL started working on the imagery of Marilyn Monroe after her death in 1967. He created a series of 10 variations referred to as the MARILYN SERIES, each with virtually the same composition but different colour variations. There were only 250 portfolios made in total.

There were also 26 sets of Artists Proofs, which Warhol signed and lettered on the back. These original prints were published by Factory Editions and referred to as Factory Additions version of the MARILYN SUITE.

In 1970 these original silkscreens were reproduced to create a new series of MARILYN screen prints in 10 colour variations. These were named the SUNDAY B MORNING prints and being signed by WARHOL himself using the phrase “ this is not me "ANDY WARHOL”

A third series was produced in 1985 with a stamped signature, known as the European Artist’s Proof Edition.

The SUNDAY B MORNING screen prints that we have on our gallery website comprise the fourth MARILYN series. These prints are made from reproductions of WARHOL’S original silkscreens from 1967. They are stamped in blue ink on the back and are referred to as the Blue Ink series. These MARILYN screen prints.  SUNDAY B MORNING prints are produced with the same quality and integrity as WARHOL’S original
