KARL GIETL grew up in the small mining town of Benoni on the East Rand and was schooled in the vibrant and turbulent city of Johannesburg during the ‘chaos’ of the mid eighties. 

He had his first solo exhibition in 1994 ,followed by several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the SMAC Art Gallery and at the AFRONOVA. Numerous works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'SPECTATORS II' sold at Stephan Welz & Co., Johannesburg 'Decorative & Fine Arts' in 2012.
