See all artistsKim Mobey is a contemporary figurative and portrait artists who's focus on current social and political events in and around the African continent has brought her international attention. She began selling her work through galleries at the age of 16 and has work in private collections on every continent and in over 20 countries.
Her technically disciplined rendering of modern themes and tribal portraits is strongly influenced by the old masters, especially Rembrandt and Vermeer. Modern masters such as Warhol, Freud and Hockney also strongly influence her composition and subject matter. Although entirely self-taught, she works prolifically in a wide variety of new and traditional media including oil, acrylic watercolour, collage, etching, linocut, graphite, pastel and ink, as well as sculpting in wood, resin and cement.
